A CLOSER LOOK

Meet Desktop Pet Engine

This is a desktop pet creation game. You can create characters you like or download characters shared by others from the Steam Workshop, then bring them onto your desktop to keep you company! Character behavior is controlled entirely through the behavior tree system. You can freely edit each character’s behavior tree to design how it behaves.

A behavior tree is a tree-shaped structure made up of nodes and connections. By combining different nodes, you can design how a character behaves.

The game divides nodes into the following categories:

What you can do

1. Root nodes

The entry point of a behavior tree

2. Composite nodes

Arrange how multiple child nodes execute

3. Decorator nodes

Add execution rules to a single child node

4. Condition nodes

Check whether a condition is met

5. Action nodes

Perform specific behaviors

6. Subtrees

Another behavior tree.
